Millie the Jack Russell vanished during the search for a cockerpoo called Teddy at The Wrekin in Telford on December 29.

Following an appeal on Facebook which attracted more than 2,000 followers she was found in a hedge in the grounds of Alexander Fleming Primary School, Sutton Hill, on Thursday morning after an all-night search in the area.

Her relieved owners, magician Paul Rushworth, 61, and his wife Jane, 55, of Belvidere, Shrewsbury, said they were over the moon with the response by the community after scores of people joined in the search of the beauty spot and around streets in an effort to find her.

"MIllie is safe and well and it's so wonderful we're lost for words. We're so happy to have her back home," they said.

"It was our other dog Maisie who spotted her in the undergrowth and Jane got down on her knees and called her name and Millie just came crawling out and straight into her arms. My wife was crying and we were hugging her and it was an amazing moment.

"Millie has been trying to catch up on her sleep and we're going to take her to the vets for a check up.

"We were really worried about how she would react because she is a rescue dog and she had been away from us for six days. But in the end it she just calmly came to us and it was lovely."

"We had been out looking for Teddy on the Friday when both our dogs just followed a scent and ran off. Normally if they went for wander I whistle seven times and they return, but this particular day they didn't after disappearing about 300 yards past the Halfway House. Maisie was taken in by a local farmer and we got her back the name night.

"We are so grateful for the support from everyone. We had hundreds of people out looking for her. I did my magic show at the Whitehouse Hotel with coach trips from all over the country and I was telling the audiences about it and as a result we've had emails from as far as Southampton from guests asking if we'd found her. We want to thank the community for their support," he added.

Teddy the 12-month-old cockerpoo went missing from on December 27 after escaping from her Trench home. He was found at the Severn Trent Quarry near Humbers Lane two days later.
