The premises, formerly known as Liquid and Diva, is reopening under the name Unit 32.

The former nightclub, at Raven Meadows, has been taken on by a community interest company, which says it wants to provide a venue for local musicians and artists to perform on a larger scale.

Alan Davies, a spokesman for the team behind the venue said: "We are really excited in this project. A lot of time and effort has been made to deliver this new space that offers a substantial platform for aspiring creative people.

"We understand there is a gap in the market for a dedicated events venue of this size that provides an opportunity to musicians, artists and promoters."

Mr Davies said Unit 32 has been renovated to offer a performance stage – fitted with a PA and lighting rig.

He added that the venue "will be available to all to use that can show community value in their events", and that "it will also be available for private hire for a small donation to the ‘not for profit’ organisation to help cover the operational costs".

Mr Davies said all event proceeds will go to covering overheads and to help fund future daytime practice sessions and creative workshops.

He added: "We would like to thank all those that have helped bring this project to life. Particularly the landlords, artists, musicians and local businesses and authorities that have grafted to get the project to where it is. We would like to see as many local people and organisations use the venue as much as they can, including other venues who may feel a particular event doesn’t quite suit their property."

The venue is set to open in three phases, with the third phase completing in 2018.

Phase one will see it open at 8.30pm on Saturday with a showcase of local aspiring live musicians and DJs.

Other shows included in phase one of the opening include 'InAtTheDeepEnd', which will be a night of electronica and deep house music curated by local music producers, as well as Cosmic Rays' official E.P launch – ‘Trust the process’ who feature The Walking Dead comic artist, Charlie Adlard on drums.
