The collections will go under the hammer in a 205-lot book sale as part of an interiors auction at fine art auctioneers Halls’ Battlefield salerooms on Wednesday.

One of the collections focuses on sports and racing cars and motorcycles. There are several books on Jaguar, Aston Martin, Alfa Romeo, and Mercedes cars and Vincent and Matchless motorcycles.

The second collection comes from a Shrewsbury vendor who inherited early motoring magazines from his uncle. He has added to the collection over the last 50 years.

There are bound volumes of The Autocar from 1907, which carry an estimate of £200 to £300 and bound volumes of The Motor from the early 1920s. In addition, the collection includes several individual copies of Show Reports of The Autocar from the 1920s and ‘30s and motor cycling magazines from the same period, many with striking Art Deco covers.

Other entries include an autograph album with signed photographs of aviator Amy Johnson and operatic soprano Nellie Melba, which is expected to fetch up to £300 and a small collection of limited edition Gregynog Press books, including Dylan Thomas’ volume of poetry ‘Deaths and Entrances’, illustrated by John Piper, which was published in 1984 and carries an estimate of around £300.
