Di Horton, 50, and Cam Le Gallia-Pound, 53, were at Shrewsbury College in its previous guise of Shrewsbury College of Arts & Technology in 1983-4 studying for a Nursery Nursing Diploma and an Electrical Apprenticeship.

Although they were students at the same time, their paths didn’t cross for another 25 years until they met at Shropshire Council.

Di, from Shrewsbury, said: “If we had met at College we probably wouldn’t have looked twice at each other because we were both different people back then.

“I did two years of nursery nursing and then went to London for 12 years. Cam left the College and then got a job as a magazine photographer in Ludlow where he’s from and then worked on cruise ships.

“He came back to be with his then wife and had two children and then got a job with Ludlow District Council before it merged with Shropshire Council. He moved to the Shirehall in Shrewsbury in 2009 as a trainee Mechanical & Electrical Surveyor and I got a job there later that year as the admin support for the team.

“He overheard me saying I was going to meet a friend in Ludlow, and being from there, he asked if I wanted to meet him for a coffee.

“So I did and that was that really! My friend said she could tell there was something between us so she made an excuse and left us to it.”

Cam asked Di to marry her three years ago and they recently started planning their wedding – Di’s first marriage.

The couple g0t married at Shrewsbury Castle before heading to Origins Restaurant on London Road for their wedding breakfast, speeches and reception on Friday.

“We looked at a number of venues for our wedding but found them a bit samey,” Di said.

“We have often dined at Origins Restaurant at their theme nights and really enjoyed ourselves. We were having dinner there one night and Cam suggested we ask if they did weddings – which they did.

“We were absolutely thrilled and delighted because we have so many happy memories of the college and it’s a connection for us. There are so many similarities and co- incidences between us as a couple.

“All the staff and students and commercial manager Ted have been absolutely fabulous and we just can’t fault how helpful they have been. They are providing us with a real bespoke wedding, which is everything we want”
