The occupants of the house in Church Green, Cockshutt, managed to get out safely when the blaze began and raised the alarm at 12.30am.

Fire crews from Ellesmere and Baschurch were quickly on the scene and four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus went into the house to bring the fire under control in just over half an hour.

They used a thermal imaging camera to ensure the fire was completely out.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said that the fire involved an upstairs bedroom.

Fire investigation officers went to the scene to try to discover the cause of the blaze.
