Leagues4you runs sporting fun leagues across the UK, involving more than 3,100 players and says the new rounders project could include mixed teams of men and women.

Lucie Hughes, League Coordinator said: "We’re passionate about getting people back into sport and make playing as hassle free as possible. We take away a lot of the barriers that can prevent people from taking part in sports. We sort out venue hire, umpires and the required kit."

She said anyone over 14 was welcome to join regardless of ability, fitness and age.

The league will be open to both women and men It is a mixed league and teams can have up to five men per team of nine players.

Teams will play once a week on Thursday evenings at Oswestry School starting on May 30. The league will be preceded by a refresher session at 6.30 - 8pm tomorrow when players can remind themselves of the rules, form teams, play plenty of practise matches and get themselves league-ready.

"You can join leagues as a team, small group of friends or individually. Many of our teams are a group of like minded men and women who were once strangers. The cost is £32 per team per match less than £4 per player.”

Luce said that the UK was one of the least active countries in Europe, with a new study by Sport England showing that around one third of people do not get at least 30 minutes of exercise a week. The recommended level is 150 minutes of moderate exercise. Researchers from the London School of Economics found that by playing sport in a team participants not only gain the health benefits of exercise, but can boost long-term happiness.
