A local councillor has warned dog walkers and children to stay away from Bluebell Wood in Gatacre until the area is completely cleaned up by the local authority.

He says the walker was lucky the needle had not gone through his shoe.

The discarded needles and other drugs equipment was found in undergrowth in the wood.

A video was posted on social media showing the needle that went through the man's shoe and some of the items that were found.

Town councillor Jay Moore arranged with Shropshire Council to have the area cleaned up after seeing the video on Facebook.

He said: "There are a small number of people in the area who have a drug or alcohol problem and we do need to try to help these people. However, whatever their problems, they should not put other people in danger by leaving things like used needles in a public place.

"This area is well known as somewhere children play and people walk their dogs. I would urge them to keep out of Bluebell Woods until this can be cleaned up."

Councillor Moore said anyone who came across similar items should not touch them but should contact the local authority which can send out a special disposal team.
