Fire crews from Ellesmere, Baschurch, Oswestry and Shrewsbury were called to the barn at Rednal Mill at Rednal, near West Felton at 11.29pm to reports that a barn, containing a large quantity of straw and farming machinery, was alight.

After spending more than two hours tackling the blaze, they called fire investigators to determine whether the fire had been started deliberately.

The incident was passed to officers from West Mercia Police after it was determined that the fire was of ‘doubtful origin’.

Inspector Tracy Ryan from Oswestry Safer Neighbourhood Team said that, although officers had not attended the incident at the time of the fire, they had been contacted by the fire service and were now investigating.

Anyone with information should contact the police on 101 quoting incident number 756S181218 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
