Matt’s Community Breakfast which is held at St Collen’s Hall in Llangollen every Saturday morning received a £300 donation from Wrexham Riders after a fund-raising event.

More than a hundred people joined the bikers for an evening of live music and entertainment with the proceeds were split between the community breakfast and SANDS the Stillbirth & Neonatal Death Charity.

Kaz Dawn, a member of Wrexham Riders and a volunteer at Matt’s Community Breakfast said: “We were delighted to be able to hand over such a substantial donation to the community breakfast which will go a long way to supporting the good quality food cooked each week. The breakfast works on a donation basis, so no-one is turned away from receiving a decent hot meal.”

Matt’s Community Breakfast regularly serves more than twenty cooked breakfasts every week from 9-11am with people asked to pay what they can afford for the meal.

Stephanie Morgan and Mike Connolly, both from Llangollen, started the breakfast four years ago, in memory of Stephanie’s son, Matt, who died from a brain tumour. Stephanie said: “Matt was always very hospitable and believed that sharing a meal together broke down barriers and built relationships. He took care to include everyone and the community breakfast is continuing that ethos.

“Everyone is welcome and the atmosphere on a Saturday morning is fun and lively. People come from all sorts of backgrounds and it’s an opportunity for a good quality hot meal, company, conversation and friendly faces.”

Sausages and bacon are supplied by Gwyn’s Butchers on Castle Street and other items are donated. A team of cooks and waiters provide the breakfast each week on a rota basis.
