Suspected knifeman in court after Oswestry stabbing

One man was stabbed and another was left with a broken leg after two violent attacks within hours of each other in Oswestry.

A suspected knifeman was due in court today over the stabbing, which happened less than two hours before an unrelated attack left a man with a broken leg and a broken ankle.

Daniel Elliott, aged 27, is suspected of stabbing a 22-year-old man at an address in Roft Street in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The victim was taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital but his injuries were not believed to be life threatening.

Elliott, of Beatrice Street, Oswestry, has been charged with burglary and section 18 wounding and was due to appear before Kidderminster Magistrates Court today.

Eleanor Harris, a spokeswoman for West Mercia Police, said: "Police were called at 2.55am to an address in Roft Street in Oswestry after a report a man had been stabbed.

"A 22-year-old man was taken to hospital with a stab wound, his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

"A man has been charged with burglary and section 18 wounding with intent and is due to appear before Kidderminster Magistrates' Court."

Meanwhile police are appealing for witnesses to the second attack, which happened in a town centre alleyway at 4.35am.

The police spokeswoman added: "Police were called at 4.35am after a 23-year-old man was assaulted in Cross Street in Oswestry.

"He was taken to hospital for treatment, his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. Enquiries are on-going.
