Police are appealing for witnesses after indecent messages were sprayed on the walls of Whittington Castle and on other buildings in the village near Oswestry.

The damage was caused last week and police want anyone who has information about the vandalism to contact them on 101.

Sue Ellis the castle manager, said a previous daubing of phallic symbols occurred while the trustees were holding a meeting inside the castle with the trustees themselves

using soap, water and brushes to scrub the graffiti away.

But the latest writing daubed on the castle walls will have to be removed by specialist experts, because of the building’s historic status.

Last month vandals wrenched the village's communal defibrillator off its holder in Station Road and it was found dumped in the castle grounds.
