Mr Pip Pritchard

Pip Pritchard had one of the Gatacre allotments for almost 40 years and been on the committee for much of that time.

He was involved in getting a grant for the building of a disabled toilet on the site.

His family and other allotment holders have been caring for his allotment during his illness.

Mr Pritchard and his wife, Ivy, were deeply involved in the allotment society and its popular annual show as well as its spectacular exhibit each year at the Oswestry Show.

In 2007 the society began to exhibit at Shrewsbury Flower Show and in 2008 it won the Shropshire Star garden competition at the show in the Quarry.

His daughter, Ellie, said Mr Pritchard loved his garden and allotment.

"He was always quick to help other people and give help and advice about their allotment or garden. He had time for everyone," she said.

"He was best know for his prize winning onions which he would plant on Christmas Day each year. He would disappear just before or just after Christmas dinner and would be in his greenhouse."

Mr Pritchard leaves his wife, daughter, two sons, Mark and Tony and two grandchildren.

His funeral will be held on Friday at 11am at Wrexham Crematorium with donations in lieu of flowers for the Lingen Davies Cancer appeal.
