People stopped to give the pedestrian CPR after the collision at the Gobowen roundabout on the A5 Oswestry bypass at about 9.30pm on Monday.

However emergency services were unable to save the man and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman and a child who were in the car during the crash were assessed by ambulance crews but didn't need hospital treatment.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, who sent two ambulances and two paramedics to the crash, said: “Crews arrived to find a man who was in cardiac arrest following a collision with a car and was receiving CPR by passers-by.

"Ambulance staff quickly took over resuscitation efforts but, sadly, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead on scene a short time later."

The junction between the A5 and the B5069, which connects Oswestry with Gobowen, was blocked for several hours as a result.

The man's relatives have been informed.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses, or anyone who has information about the collision, to contact them on 101 quoting incident number 775S of April 16.
