Firefighters tackle 'severe' bungalow blaze near Oswestry

Fire crews tackled a “severe” bungalow fire near Oswestry.

Six teams of firefighters were sent to the Sychtyn area to tackle the blaze on Thursday, with other crews joining from across the border.

Some of the roof on the bungalow collapsed, as well as the chimney, although no details on the exact extent of the damage were yet available.

Crews were sent from Oswestry Fire Station at around 3.15pm, with efforts to get the blaze under control still ongoing into the evening.

A water carrier was also sent from Bridgnorth.

A spokeswoman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue said that the fire was “severe”.

She said: “We were called at 3.15pm to reports of a house fire.

“The severe fire involved a residential bungalow.

“As well as crews sent by Shropshire Fire and Rescue, we worked with other crews from across the border in Wales.”

She said bungalow was believed to have been unoccupied at the time of the fire.
