Maternity units at Bridgnorth and Oswestry will be closed until Tuesday for women going into labour.

The midwife-led units will be temporarily suspended because of ongoing staff sickness at the consultant and midwife led unit at the Princess Royal Hospital, Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital trust said today.

Community antenatal and postnatal appointments will continue as planned at the two units during daytime hours on Saturday and Sunday.

Sarah Jamieson, Head of Midwifery said: "Women booked to give birth at Bridgnorth or Oswestry who go into labour during the temporary suspension of services will be offered a birth at another midwife-led unit. If they require support during this time they will be able to access a midwife as usual.

"We are contacting any women who have chosen to deliver at Oswestry or Bridgnorth and offer an alternative location to give birth if they go into labour during the temporary suspension of services.

“This temporary suspension of services is purely due to staff sickness and I would like to apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”
