The pool has remained closed since the first coronavirus lockdown in March. A potential water leak at the pool has added to the problems of social distancing and making the complex Covid secure.

Father of two Nick Saxby set up a petition, which has now been signed by over 400 people.

He is requesting a debate under Shropshire Council's petition scheme.

The petition urges Shropshire Council to commit to making Whitchurch Swimming Centre useable, work with contractors and partners to develop solutions for adapting the centre for social distancing and engage with the community on the obstacles to opening the pool.

Previously, Councillor Lezley Picton, portfolio holder for leisure provision at the council, has assured local people that the council is committed to the long term survival of the swimming pool, and was looking into a possible leak in the pool which was preventing its reopening.

The petition will go to Shropshire Council's performance management scrutiny committe tomorrow.
