Two articulated lorries and a van were involved in the crash near Whitchurch

Firefighters had to cut a casualty free from one of the two articulated lorries that collided just outside of Whitchurch on Friday.

The A49 was shut in both directions in the aftermath of the crash, which saw the van overturn and end up across one side of the carriageway.

The van ended up on its side

Police, paramedics and an air ambulance were all sent after the crash happened next to Bradeley Green Lane, north of Whitchurch, at around noon.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service today shared photos of the scene, showing the scale of the damage.

One casualty had to be cut out of a lorry cab

Both cabs were completely destroyed, having collided head-on, while the van ended up on its side with its front edge resting in a hedge.

Paramedics treated two casualties, one of whom was cut free from a lorry cab by firefighters.

Fire crews from Shropshire and across the Cheshire border also stopped leaking oil and diesel going into a grid and into the watercourse.

The Environment Agency was informed.
