Police appeal for information after woman dies in crash near Wem

Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman died when her car hit a hedge on the Shrewsbury to Wem road.

The collision happened at about 11.20am on Friday, April 5 when for unknown reasons her Renault Clio crashed into a hedge.

The women's next of kin has been informed.

Two ambulances, a paramedic officer, a community first responder and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford were sent to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, crews were told the driver of the car, a woman, had suffered a medical emergency prior to the collision.

“Ambulance staff performed CPR and also administered advanced life support but sadly it became apparent that nothing could be done to save her and she was confirmed dead at the scene.”

The road was closed and traffic was diverted through nearby lanes.

Officers are carrying out enquiries and appealing for witnesses.
