The shelter, on Station Road, has had its glass panel smashed, leaving glass covering the public footpath and the shelter's bench.

Police say CCTV revealed an undisclosed private hire coach attempting to turn around in the road after dropping customers off, before it crashed into the shelter just after midnight on July 29.

Police Constable Dave Carpenter said: "Our groundsman found the glass covering the pavement on the morning of July 30.

"We were initially suspicious of anti-social behaviour, but upon closer inspection we thought there might have been a vehicle involved.

"Luckily Wem has very good CCTV coverage and we were able to check the cameras which revealed a local coach company had a bus dropping of people in the middle of the night, before turning around and hitting the shelter.

"We've contacted the company who told us their driver had reported it, and now it's a case of insurance companies to work with the council to fund the repairs."
