More than 30 shares have so far been bought by residents and businesses towards the £40,000 needed to build a new gym and viewing area at the centre in Wem.

The Wem Swimming and Lifestyle Centre(WSLC) Board had previously raised £95,000 towards the project, which it hopes will increase the amount of people using the pool.

Cadi Price, chairman of WSLC, said: "We are delighted to have received another five shares totalling £1,850. Thank you so much.

"They are all very generous and now part of Wem Swimming and Lifestyle Centre.

"Since September 1 we have received £10,000. The trustees have re-launched the community share offer for a further three months until March 1."

Share application forms can be picked up at the pool reception, Wem library and town hall.
