Work on making improvements to Wem Swimming and Lifestyle Centre are set to begin in January, it has been revealed.

A new gym and viewing area will be built at the leisure centre as part of a £40,000 project.

The Wem Swimming and Lifestyle Centre(WSLC) Board hope the improvements will increase the amount of people using the facility.

It comes after it was announced a community share scheme launched to raise the money for the scheme has been extended.

Cadi Price, chairman of WSLC, said: "Wem Swimming and Lifestyle Centre is hoping to start the build new gym in January. The new gym will enable parents to watch their children during swimming lessons.

"We continue to raise £40,000 for the gym build. The community share offer will continue until March 1. Each share starts at £50 up to £4,000. Many thanks to all who have bought shares to date."

Share application forms can be picked up at the pool reception, Wem library and the town hall.
