An inquest has opened into the sudden death of a teenager who collapsed near Market Drayton earlier this year.

Thomas John Lee

Thomas John Lee, who was 17, was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital after falling ill on a canal path by Berrisford Road, on the outskirts of Market Drayton, at about 11pm on February 15.

He died at the hospital less than two hours later, Shropshire's senior coroner John Ellery heard on Tuesday.

Coroner's officer Kerry Ann Badham said that Thomas, known as Tom, became unwell and collapsed on the evening of February 15.

He was given CPR by friends and family who called the ambulance service.

At the hearing in Wellington, Mr Ellery adjourned the full inquest to November 6.

Police investigating Tom's death earlier this year said a number of teenagers, including two 16-year-old girls and two 17-year-old boys, were helping with their inquiries.
