Weeks out from his gruelling run, a police officer due to take on the Market Drayton 10k in full riot gear said him and his crew are more determined than ever.

PC Gary Lansdale will lead a team of officers on the run on May 12 to raise money for the Severn Hospice which, it was recently announced, will lose £250,000 in cuts by the Telford & Wrekin Clinical Commissioning Group.

He said he hoped the cuts announced this week to the hospice made more people aware of the good the charity does.

Gary, who works between Shrewsbury and Telford, said: "I wouldn't say it has motivated me more but it has raised some awareness of how good the hospice is.

"With the funding going down, that's why it's important to keep supporting them.

Confident

"The fundraising is still going well. Work have been brilliant, the West Mercia Police Federation donated £500.

"At the moment in training I'm trying to replicate the heat of the stuff we will be wearing.

"I'm confident we will make it through, I'm just not sure what kind of time we will do.

"I'm not too bothered on the time, more on doing it as a team."

The charity appeal on justgiving.com/fundraising/garylansdale has already raised more than £10,600.

Gary and the other officers decided to run for the hospice after close friend and former police staff member Lisa McAllister was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Lisa died in March.
