Firefighters arrived at the barn, at a farm near Market Drayton, at around 1.30am and spent much of the morning putting it out and damping down.

The entire barn at New House Farm in Hatton was consumed in the flames, and crews from Market Drayton, Hodnet, Bridgnorth and Prees battled the blaze with a heavy pumping unit and water carrier.

The engine from Hodnet was first on the scene and found the barn full of hay and straw engulfed in flames. They began making nearby farm buildings safe.

Meanwhile a high-volume pumping unit from Prees used an open water supply to ensure crews had enough water to put out the flames.

The fire was under control by 5.50am, and crews from Wellington and Telford arrived to relieve two of the crews later in the day.
