Delays after car blaze on A53 near Market Drayton - with pictures

Motorists were caught in delays after a car caught fire on the A53 in Shropshire.

One fire engine was sent from Market Drayton to a car fire on the busy route at Tern Hill, near Market Drayton.

Police closed the road while crews tackled the fire at about 9pm last night.

A spokesman for Market Drayton Fire Station said: "At 8.50pm we received a call to a small vehicle fire on the A53 at Tern Hill.

"On arrival we were faced with a fully developed fire involving a private saloon car.

"Police were on scene and closed the road allowing the crew to work safely to tackle the fire.

"Two breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet were used and water was ferried from a nearby hydrant.

"The crew cooled the surrounding area including trees and bushes that were in close proximity to the vehicle.

"We are pleased to report there were no injuries and the crew are now available for further calls."
