Organisers have revealed next year’s 15th Market Drayton 10k race will take place on May 13.

They have also revealed that to mark the anniversary - anyone who ran the race in 2004 is guaranteed a place.

Online entry for the race will open on July 1 at 6pm.

Earlier this month about 2,300 people from across the Midlands and beyond took on the run around the town’s streets, ranging from keen athletes to youngsters taking part in shorter fun runs.

Race director Tim Beckett said he expected the race to be a sell out again.

He said: "The race is the 15th one next year since I re-launched it back in 2004 so we have guaranteed a place to anyone that ran the first race back in 2004.

"So far 50 people have come forward to sign up.

"Entries for the event open on July 1 for the race which takes place on Sunday, May 13 2018.

"We got great feedback this year about the event as we made many changes this year including new course layout, wider start, more water, more park and ride buses.

"So the only changes next year will be fine tuning the event – improving the start area with pens for estimated times of runners and also an improved goody nag offering even more freebies making it the best value 10K race in the UK.

"We expect next year’s race to be sold out again as the feedback this year was it the best ever."

When the race began in 2004 there were 125 entrants, and then 250 a couple of years after.

Last year the race was named the UK’s best 10k race in the county for the fourth year running by Runner’s World magazine, beating events in London and Leeds to the top spot.

However, this year the magazine left the event in Market Drayton out of the league table, saying it had changed the ratings, despite being rated the highest by runners.

In previous years all of the spots in the race have been taken up within weeks of entries opening.
