Cyclist taken to hospital after collision with car in Ellesmere

A cyclist was taken to hospital after colliding with a car in Ellesmere yesterday afternoon.

The A528, Grange Road, was closed by police last night after emergency services were called to the scene of the incident.

The air ambulance from Cosford was called, and the injured man was first assessed by an off-duty paramedic.

A spokesperson from West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "A cyclist has been taken to hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries after colliding with the back of a stationary car. The incident happened on Grange Road in Ellesmere, Shropshire at around 3.45pm on Tuesday afternoon.

"An off-duty paramedic was first on scene but was backed up by an ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford.

"On arrival, the rear windscreen of the car was completely smashed. The rider, a middle aged man, was assessed by the ambulance staff and the crew from air ambulance.

"After treatment at the scene, he was taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for further care."

The road is now open again.
