Emma Weir, nine, and Emily Phimester, eight, from 1st Baschurch Brownies, were presented with their awards after completing a series of challenges which included running part of the weekly meeting.

The award was introduced in September as part of a new Brownie programme, which includes new interest badges, theme awards and skills builders.

To earn the prestigious Gold award, girls have to complete all of these across six themes, as well as tackling a challenge and learning about Guides, which they can join at 10.

But Emma and Emily were allowed to use a transitional route to the Gold as they have been in Brownies for several years.

Brown Owl Pam Kingsley said: “I’m so proud of Emma and Emily for earning their Gold awards. In the new programme they have to work towards their interest badges at home, and they were both very keen to earn their Gold awards – at one point I was awarding an interest badge a week because they were so busy.

“Earning the Gold award is an amazing achievement and they should be very proud of themselves. For them to be the first in the county to get the award is fantastic and shows how hard they have worked.”
