Newtown pensioner who damaged car ordered to pay more than £750

A pensioner who damaged a car that didn't belong to him has been ordered to pay more than £750.

James McBride, aged 65, damaged a VW Touran to the tune of £435 in Newtown on September 7 last year.

McBride, of Heol Pengwern, Newtown, Powys, pleaded guilty to one charge of criminal damage at Welshpool Magistrates Court.

Magistrates fined him £249, and ordered him to pay £385 in compensation to the victim of his crime. McBride must also pay court costs of £105 and a victim surcharge of £34, meaning he faces a total bill of £774. He will pay the money back in instalments of £50.
