The Rhayader Community Support organisation at The Arches helped facilitate the generosity of several organisations and individuals over Christmas.

Festive Food parcels were delivered to 20 households and Café vouchers to 20 more thanks to a grant from Western Power Distributions’ ‘In this Together’ Community Fund.

Thanks to the kindness of Rhayader’s ‘Secret Santa’, vouchers bought from local businesses were distributed to residents who were nominated for their wonderful support for the community over the year or for those who have had a particularly hard year and in need of a treat.

Pippa Boss from The Arches said “It was all a bit bonkers getting everything organised and delivered in time – and as we were setting out we were donated a huge Christmas cake from Penbont Tea Rooms so that was added to the round.

"On top of that we got a message to say that the amazing seven-year-old Jak Savage from Llanidloes had raised £3000 for local Foodbanks and some of that was for ours. There were several other generous donations to the Foodbank over the Christmas period too”

She said other wonderful acts of kindness included Ty Morgans Bar and Bistro cooking and delivering 130 free pre-Christmas dinners for the over 65s and on Christmas Day Rhayader volunteers collected and delivered Christmas dinners from Ashfield Community Café.

“Recipients have been in tears over the gifts and meals. It means so much to be thought of or appreciated and myself and the Arches team are so glad to have helped it happen.”
