A motorcyclist has died in a crash near Welshpool.

Police closed the road

The tragedy happened near to the entrance of the Welshpool Golf club, west of the town.

Police today appealed for witnesses.

The accident happened at about 5.50pm on Saturday on the A458 Welshpool to Llanfair Caereinion road. It involved a red, Toyota Landcruiser car and a silver coloured, Suzuki motorcycle.

A spokesman for Dyfed Powys police said: "Tragically, the male rider of the motorcycle sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene."

It is not known if the driver of the Toyota was injured.

The road was closed for several hours after the collision while police accident specialists began their investigation into the crash.

Traffic was diverted through Castle Caereinion and Berriew.

Officers are urging anyone who may have seen the crash or either of the vehicles before the collision to contact them.

"Please contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 101 quoting ref: 298 of the August 3 if you were travelling along this road at the time of the collision and have dash-cam footage, or if you witnessed the collision or the vehicles involved travelling along the road,” a spokesman said.
