Pupils leap into limelight with gym wins

Young gymnasts from a Mid Wales school have returned from a national championship with a raft of gold and silver medals.

Two teams of talented gymnasts at Llandysilio C of W School in Four Crosses, near to the Shropshire/Powys border, have enjoyed much a lot of success in recent months. The two boys teams, aged under 11 and under nine, entered into the Powys Schools Gymnastics Novice Championships competition on October 14

They prevailed above other schools in the area, and qualified for the Welsh Schools Novice Championships in Cardiff on November 26. They young gymnasts went up against the best of the best from across the country, and managed to bring success back to the border village.

The under-11 boys team fought off competition from around Wales to win a silver medal for the school, with the under-nine going one better and boys going one better.The youngsters scooping the gold medal, with both teams coming back to school last week to show off their prizes.

Headteacher Amanda Williams was delighted with the success of the youngsters, and thanked the parents and coaches for their support.

She said: “We are delighted with the results of our Gymnasts it reflects their hard work and dedication throughout the competition shown by the children. We are grateful to our gymnastic coaches and the support of the parents.”
