A Christmas advert made for just £6.99 by a hardware store has been viewed more than 26,000 times.

Hafod Hardware in Rhayader has challenged big firms such as John Lewis and M&S with a festive advert created in one day.

Tom Jones and his film maker friend Josh Holdaway managed to edit and publish the two-minute masterpiece featuring locals from around the town. Mr Jones, who runs the family business with his grandparents, Alan and Pauline Lewis, came up with the idea as a joke.

However, after publishing the video, which sees him ride through Rhayader delivering presents, he could not believe the reaction. He said: “It’s been crazy. Me and my mate only really made it for a laugh. We thought it would just be shared about the town and give the locals something to talk about. We didn’t expect it to get this sort of coverage. It’s unbelievable.

“Footfall has increased and we’ve had a lot of people call in the shop who said they were just passing but couldn’t not stop to come in and have a look.

“Comments like that make it all worthwhile.” It cost the pair just £6.99 to make the video – and the whole budget was spent on the red Santa sack.

The video shows Mr Jones riding on a vintage Honda motorbike through the Elan Valley on Christmas Eve with the red sack on his back.

He delivers presents to grateful locals and drops off four candles to a church.
