Fire crews tackle wood chip and bin lorry blazes

Fire crews tackled separate blazes involving ten tons of wood chip and a recycling lorry last night and this morning.

Last night, firefighters were called to Hughley, near Much Wenlock, where the wood chip was ablaze in an outbuilding.

Two fire engines were sent to the scene and nobody was hurt.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 9.12pm we received a call reporting a fire classified as property fire.

"Two fire appliances were mobilised from Much Wenlock and Tweedale. An operations officer was in attendance.

"Crews used breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to tackle the fire."

This morning, in Manor Road, Dawley, Telford, a recycling lorry was alight. The fire was out by the time two fire engines had arrived at the scene so crews stayed to make the vehicle safe.

A fire service spokesman said: "At 8.26am we received a call reporting a fire classified as HGV Fire.

"Two fire appliances were mobilised from Telford Central. An operations officer was in attendance.

"Crews used rakes, shovels, mathooks and a thermal imaging camera to tackle the fire."
