It happened outside the Pheasant Inn, Linley Brook, which closed in 2012 althought owner Simon Reed still lives at the property.

He said that vandals destroyed a line of shrubs he had planted alongside a hedge.

He said: “In October 2013, we planted a hedge in a trench across our frontage where it joins the highway.

“The frontage is about 45 yards long and immediately behind the hedge we constructed a wooden fenceAbout 150 hawthorn, maple, hazel and blackthorn plants were planted which were maturing nicely.

Mr Reed said he discovered they had been vandalised around lunchtime on October 16.He said: “We have counted 95 plants which have been destroyed by being neatly cut off a few inches above the ground.

“We are utterly disgusted that there are moronic people about who are capable of such totally mindless criminality.”

“Our friends and former customers who have heard about this are as appalled as we are.”

Mr Reed says he has reported the damage to police.
