Free will writing service

The Severn Hospice has joined forces with solicitors from Shropshire to offer a free will-writing service after it was revealed half of adults leave their loved ones in limbo when they die.

The hospice has joined forces with law firms Hatchers, Clarkes and MFG, who will waive their fees for writing simple wills in lieu of donation to the charity.

Elodie Home, legacy and memoriam advisor at Severn Hospice, said: “Hundreds of thousands of people die each year without leaving a will making a difficult time even harder to deal with for their families, especially if you’re not married or in a civil partnership."

She said many people might not realise that there are strict laws regarding how a person’s estate is distributed when they die if they have not left a will irrespective of their wishes.

“By making a will it doesn’t mean bringing the inevitable closer but it does mean your loved ones receive the gifts you want them to and your wishes are documented," she added.

“Anyone taking up our will-making offer will be helping us straight away and they are under no further obligation to us. The arrangements in their will remain completely confidential between them and their solicitor."
