Petition launches after new bus route bypasses Albrighton

A petition has been launched over a new bus route that bypasses a village – sparking fears residents will be “cut off from the outside world”.

Currently, Albrighton has a bus service which operates a return route from Wolverhampton to Telford.

Margaret Brookes, an Albrighton resident and bus user who started the petition, said that the 891 Banga service runs through Albrighton but is “very limited”.

She said: “It runs through Albrighton but with a very limited service.

“Mondays to Fridays the last bus from Wolverhampton is 4.35pm, how ridiculous when people work until about 5pm to 6pm.

“On a Saturday the last bus from Wolverhampton is 2.25pm which again is ridiculous when people need to go shopping.

“There is no evening service on any weekday and Saturdays, Sunday and Bank Holidays there are no buses at all.”

The concerned resident added that she made a suggestion to Arriva to try a circular bus service from Telford to Wolverhampton to include Albrighton, but that the company has introduced a new service which bypasses the village altogether.

She said: “I made a suggestion to Arriva to try a circular bus service from Telford to Wolverhampton to include Albrighton.

“Arriva has recently introduced a new service, No. 10, which runs from Telford to Wolverhampton.

“It includes Shifnal and Perton but completely bypasses Albrighton which I feel is totally unacceptable.

“A lot of people living in Albrighton that have never driven or have had to give up driving are getting to be ‘cut off’ from the outside world.”

The petition has gained a number of signatures and can be found in bus shelters in Albrighton High Street.
