A crew from Baschurch fire station responded to emergency calls about the fire just after 2pm.

There were fears that strong winds could fan the fire and spread the blaze.

The crew used a specialised fogging system to dampen the area and extinguished the fire which was contained to a patch, two metres square.

Firefighters brought the incident under control by 4.15pm.

It is not known what caused the fire.
