Woman recovering after being hit by a train at Shrewsbury Railway Station

A woman remains in hospital today after being struck by a train at Shrewsbury railway station.

Police, fire and ambulance, along with the air ambulance were called to the station at just before 11.30am on Sunday after receiving reports of the incident.

The woman, who is believed to be in her 40s, was treated at the scene for her injuries before being taken to hospital for further treatment. Her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Services into and out of the station were cancelled, causing disruption for hundreds of passengers.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “Our officers were called to Shrewsbury railway station at 11.25am on Sunday, after a report that a person had been struck by a train.

“West Mercia Police, as well as colleagues from the fire and ambulance service, also attended.

“The woman, aged in her 40s, was treated at the scene by paramedics before being transferred to hospital. Her injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

“We are not currently treating the incident as suspicious.”
