"The opening of the new bridge, Minsterley," is the caption on the front of this postcard, which was franked in 1912, which means it was posted a couple of years after the event, as the bridge opening was on January 14, 1910, and these traction engines were testing it. According to a contemporary newspaper report “two large traction engines weighing together upwards of 28 tons were placed on the bridge and the structure only deflected to the extent of one-thirtieth of an inch." The original ferro-concrete bridge was strengthened to modern requirements in 2010. Picture courtesy of Ray Farlow.
