Pictures From The Past – March 22Welcome to this week's collection of nostalgia photos from the pages of the Shropshire Star.By Toby NealPublished Mar 22, 2019 Comments"The opening of the new bridge, Minsterley," is the caption on the front of this postcard, which was franked in 1912, which means it was posted a couple of years after the event, as the bridge opening was on January 14, 1910, and these traction engines were testing it. According to a contemporary newspaper report “two large traction engines weighing together upwards of 28 tons were placed on the bridge and the structure only deflected to the extent of one-thirtieth of an inch." The original ferro-concrete bridge was strengthened to modern requirements in 2010. Picture courtesy of Ray Farlow.
