Pictures From The Past - August 31Welcome to this week's collection of nostalgia photos from the pages of the Shropshire Star.By Toby NealPublished Aug 31, 2018 CommentsHere's a last trip to Rowton Manor, near Aston-on-Clun, for one of the annual Christian conventions which were held there for many years – this picture was taken in 1958 and is an external view of the buildings, with the house off to the left. In previous years many of those attending would walk from the nearby train station at Broome, but by the 1950s cars were in more common use. The photo was loaned by Edward Rollings, whose grandfather Herbert Rollings, known as Bert, was the farmer of faith who put his entire farm at the disposal of the undenominational Christians. He died on March 1, 1956, aged 76, and the conventions, which had begun at Rowton Manor in the early 1930s, continued for a few years after his death.
