This picture captures the moment a marshal was lucky to escape uninjured when he had a close encounter with the combination of Mike Watkins of Bridgnorth at a motorcycle scramble at Hawkstone in July 1968. The marshal was Rob Oakley, of Longden Common, near Shrewsbury, who was to recall: "I had recently returned from an overseas tour in Borneo with the RAF - please note forces issue jungle boots! " He said the reason he was on the floor was that he had already been driven over by an earlier outfit.
