The juxtaposition of designs is terrible – but luckily Shrewsbury’s 1960s planners restrained themselves and allowed the ancient Dun Cow pub at Abbey Foregate to remain standing in a stark contrast to the new building. And the Dun Cow has stood the test of time, while the 1960s effort, which was a Safeway supermarket, has not, having been demolished and replaced. The picture dates from October 1964.
