With the sad passing of Chris Smith, Shrewsbury Town has not just lost a lifelong supporter, but also an epic collector of photos and memorabilia relating to the club. This photo, captioned "Injury being attended to after the Dudley cup tie fight." was in an album which was compiled by his grandfather, Sam Powell, who used to be the club's physio and trainer, and is in the white coat, centre. It was taken in the treatment room of the old Gay Meadow ground and, although not dated, the FA Cup matches versus Dudley seem to have been in the 1933-34 season. Sam ran the Old Post Office Hotel in Milk Street, and was official trainer for Shrewsbury Town from around 1922-23 to the war.
