Mr Paterson had his first dose of the Oxford/Astrazeneca vaccination at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital near Oswestry on Friday.

He praised the hospital team and the volunteers for the smooth running of the vaccination centre - one of the first set up in the county.

"The government went out on a limb to produce a vaccine and now we are reaping the rewards. It will not only save lives, it will save millions of people from the awful effects of this virus," he said.

"I had Covid a year ago and it really was awful. And as we now know many people also suffer mental health side effects."

The MP says the jab was vital for everyone whether or not they had had the virus.

"Any antibodies I had will have worn off by now," he said.

"Shropshire really has let the way in ensuring its population is getting the vaccine."
