Mark Perez, chairman of Just Credit Union’s Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin section, has reflected on one of the most eventful years in its 20-year history.
He told members during a virtual meeting: “I cannot imagine any of us, at our last AGM, could have predicted where we would be now and just how much things would have changed.
“But through teamwork and close working, Just Credit Union finds itself in a strong and resilient position to face its next 20 years with confidence.”
Mr Perez thanked the staff for their dedication and professionalism, particularly in the transition from office to home working and the rapid adaptation of new technologies and new ways of working.
He said: “The transition was made possible by IT and technological solutions that Just Credit Union had invested in. We were able to maintain all the services our members value.
“The team worked remotely via the Cloud, and introduced digital loan agreements and signatures, open banking systems and a secure instant messaging app.
“These all helped us to continue to meet the changing requirements of our membership under lockdown.
“These and measures like loan restructures for furloughed members and loans for key, frontline workers, are at the heart of Just Credit Union’s ethos.
“Such adaptations meant that Just Credit Union was able to proudly serve our membership. No small achievement for a modestly-sized local enterprise.”
Chief officer Karen Farrow also took the opportunity to remember Roger Walker, who had passed away, during the meeting.
“Roger was a founder member, long time chair and board member for just Credit Union,” she said.
“He is very much missed but leaves behind an incredible legacy.
"We will always be grateful for his involvement and the input he had into making Just Credit Union the success it is today.
"I am sure he would have been proud of how the credit union he helped found 20 years ago continues to meet the needs of its members – even through our most challenging year.”
