Four more Covid deaths take Shropshire hospital toll past 300

The number of patients who have died with Covid at Shropshire's major hospitals has risen past the 300 mark.

In addition another three care home residents in the county have died with the disease.

NHS England today confirmed another four people have died with the virus at Shrewsbury & Telford NHS Hospital Trust (SaTH).

The grim milestone came as the Office for National Statistics (ONS) also confirmed another three people have died with coronavirus in county care homes.

The latest deaths mean that since the pandemic began 302 people have died with Covid while in the care of SaTH.

Another 20 have died at Shropshire Community Health Trust, and five at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital near Oswestry.

It means the total to have died in the care of county NHS trusts is now 327.

The latest figures from the ONS also show that there have been two further Covid deaths at care homes in the Shropshire Council area, and one in Telford & Wrekin.

The total is now 191 – 136 in Shropshire and 55 in Telford & Wrekin.

ONS figures also show that 140 people have died with the virus in Powys.
