Independent Market Drayton opticians' 85th anniversary pride

Newbold Opticians has been in Market Drayton since 1936 and has served several generations of patients during its time in the town.

Over the last year it has been providing emergency eyecare, delivering glasses and contact lenses to vulnerable people and hosting essential appointments.

Taken over in 2019 by Jill and James Heath, the new owners have invested in updating the practice.

Newbold patients can now take advantage of a new optical coherence tomography (OCT) machine, which provides a 3D scan of the layers of the back of the eye and enables practitioners to gain a much clearer picture of the health of patients’ eyes.

Jill Heath said: “We were very proud to take on such an historic practice and during the past two years we have been establishing our own clinical excellence, which we hope will continue for many years to come.

“It’s a terrific achievement for an independent optical practice to reach such a milestone, especially with everything that is going on, at the moment.

“This 85th year will certainly still have its challenges, just like last year, but we remain committed to supporting everyone in the area with their eyecare. We have seen first-hand what a great community spirit Market Drayton has in the face of challenges and we are very proud to be a part of it.

“It was important to us to modernise the practice, such as introducing new technology, while still maintaining the character of the practice as a vital part of the Market Drayton community, which it has been for so many decades.”

Newbold Optician is still offering eye examinations to patients who need access to eyecare. Practice staff are all equipped with PPE and regular sanitation is carried out to ensure a safe environment.

The practice is still operating on an appointment-only basis and all patients are requested to wear a suitable face covering at all times.
