Those aged 50-64 urged to get their free flu jabs in Shropshire
People who fall into a new group eligible for a free flu vaccination this winter are being urged to take up the offer in Shropshire.
Those aged 50-64 are eligible for a free NHS flu jab due to a huge expansion in the programme.
Health leaders are reminding people who are not yet vaccinated, to contact their GP practice or community pharmacy as soon as possible.
Dr Julian Povey, joint chair of Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Clinical Commissioning Groups, said: “Having a flu vaccination is even more important this year.
"If you are aged 50-64, and have not had a flu vaccination yet, please speak to your GP practice or community pharmacy to arrange this.
"You may have received a reminder letter from NHS England, so take this letter with you when attending the appointment.
"A gap of seven days is needed between a flu and Covid-19 vaccination, so please get prepared now.
"Help give yourself and others the best possible protection against flu.”
The flu vaccination is being offered to people aged 50 to 64 this year because this is the age that hospitalisations from Covid-19 starts to increase.
Health chiefs say it is important that this group do not get flu as well.
Social distancing and safety measures are in place to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
The flu vaccination is available from GP Practices and pharmacies.
