The former Combat Stress site, off Audley Avenue, will be Newport's primary hub for vaccinations, and appointments should be made available before the end of the month, said mayor Peter Scott.

Politicians and health bosses have been weighing up the potential sites around Newport that could host the centre, but the places under consideration had not been publicly revealed.

Mayor Peter Scott said today: "Our vaccination centre is Audley Court covering our Primary Care Network.

"Appointments should be available in the last week of January. Those eligible will be contacted.

"Five local care homes have now been vaccinated. Real progress!"

MP for the Wrekin Mark Pritchard said: "After a lot of hard work, I am delighted that Audley Court will open next week as part of a local vaccine rollout delivered under the Newport central Primary Care Network, with local GPs and nurses administering the vaccines.

"This is great news for Newport and the surrounding area."

People in the priority groups are advised to wait until they are contacted about vaccinations, and not to contact Combat Stress, GPs or healthcare providers.
